Rozae Nichols on Buffy the Vampire Slayer

A designer that can be seen featured on a few occasions in Buffy the Vampire Slayer is Rozae Nichols. One of the first spots I notice Sarah Michelle Gellar wearing the designer label was in the season 3 episode "The Wish".

While at the Bronze, Buffy can be seen wearing what appears to be a green, crushed velvet cami by the designer. The top features floral embellishments and a silk trim. The top, is of course, hard to find since it is now considered vintage.

Another Rozae Nichols top can be found worn by Buffy, yet again. In the season 2 episode, "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered",

In the episode, Buffy matches a scarf with a brown, velvet, Rozae Nichols leather strap cami. Buffy always did have a great eye for fashion.

Angel: "By the way, I really like your dress."
Buffy: "Yeah, yeah. Big hit with everyone."

And let's not forget about good ole Willow
In the season 7 episode, "Lies my Parents Told Me", Willow wears Rozae Nichols from head to toe.

Both the sheer red top and the floral skirt are by Rozae Nichols. For a gal who loves fuzzy sweaters, Will is surprisingly quite the fashion aficionado.

Buffy Summers Silk Lace Top from Season 7

Buffy: Willow, you’re a gay woman! And he... isn’t.
Willow: This isn’t about his physical presence! It’s about his heart.
Anya: His physical presence has a penis!

This outfit makes a quick appearance in the season 7 episode "Him". The top is a silk lace top by Nanette Lepore. The blouse appears purple, but it is actually blue. I know this, because I own the original screen worn top.

During the later seasons, cast members a lot of times would pick their own outfits. I wouldn't be surprised if Sarah Michelle Gellar picked this top, because seems to be quite the fan of the designer.

Just Because She's the Slayer Doesn't Mean She Can't Also Be Fashionable

It can sometimes be difficult to distinguish between colors, on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This is mostly due to the lighting. In season 7 episodes "Never Leave Me" and "Bring on the Night", Sarah Michelle Gellar can be seen wearing a Nanette Lepore crochet top. Because the color is somewhat indistinguishable, there has been some debate on whether the blouse is brown or black.

When sold in stores, the blouse came in both black and brown. From the screencaps it can be a bit difficult to precisely identify the color, she is wearing, but I believe the top is brown and here is why. The color of the blouse is more apparent when Sarah Michelle Gellar is in the well lit bedroom. And there you have it. Mystery solved. Case Closed.

Now, that isn't to say that SMG has never worn this top in black, because she has, just not on screen. As you can see, Sarah Michelle Gellar wore the top in black at the UPN Upfront party in May of 2002.

Whether it's a brown or a black top, I think we can all agree that both look beautiful on Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Buffy - Nanette Lepore Sheer Panel Silk Blouse

As the seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer progress, Buffy's choices in fashion continue to mature with her. By season 7, the short skirts and knee high boots are replaced with lace trimmed blouses and straight leg slacks.
In  S07E06, Sarah Michelle Gellar wears an oh so cute top by Nanette Lepore. The silk blouse features capped sleeves and sheer panel at the neckline.

These adorable tops originally were sold in an off white and black. I personally probably would have gone with the black top, but the off white is cute too.

Buffy Fashion On & Off the Set

During her time on set of the early seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, head costume designer Cynthia Bergstrom played a large role in picking out some of the most memorable and iconic pieces.

In the later seasons, Sarah Michelle Gellar would sometimes wear her own wardrobe pieces on set for shooting episodes. As a result, you can sometimes see her wearing some of the pieces in her every day life.

In this post, I thought it would be fun to point out a few of the pieces that she was seen wearing while out and about.

Embroidered top by Nanette Lepore. In brown in the episodes “Never Leave me” & “Bring on the Night” and in black at the 2002 Upfront party.

Gucci Sunglasses in the episode “Him” & while shopping in Hollywood in 2003.

Button down Marc Jacobs Blouse during the episode “Him” & same blouse while shopping in 2003. She is also wearing the Gucci sunglasses.
